Couple faces dozens of possible charges after nearly 100 dogs found inside Casa Grande home

A Casa Grande couple is facing dozens of animal cruelty charges after nearly 100 dogs, some dead, were discovered on their property Saturday.

Casa Grande Police Department said in a Facebook statement that officers were called to the home near Viola Street and Center Avenue on Saturday for a “citizen requested civil-standby.”

Officers found six dead dogs wrapped in towels and shirts on the hood of a car, the statement said. Officers also found another dead dog in the dumpster behind the residence and skeletal remains of another just outside of the home.

The residents, Lila Kaye Crawford and Michael Anthony Mills, told police they had about 20 more dogs. However, the statement said 90 dogs were found inside the home.

All of the dogs were “heavily covered in feces” and some also suffered from “dehydration, hair loss, skin sores, and puncture/bite wounds.” Out of the nearly 100 dogs, only about 30 were found to be in “decent health,” the statement said.

All of the animals were taken by animal control officials and sent to the City of Casa Grande Animal Care and Adoption Center.

Police are submitting possible charges to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office for review and said additional city codes were also violated. The submission includes more than 250 counts of animal cruelty charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
