Prepaid postage will be included for mail-in ballots for the 2020 general election in Pa.

Voters won't need to buy a stamp to mail in their absentee or mail-in ballot this fall, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State.

The Pennsylvania Department of State says it will pick up the cost of the postage for the 2020 general election so that voters can return their ballots for free. It is working with counties to determine how the prepaid postage will be handled. 

“Our goal is to make voting as accessible, safe, and easy for eligible voters as possible,” Secretary Boockvar said, according to the news release. “Mail-in or absentee voting with prepaid postage means Pennsylvanians can vote from the comfort of their own home, without having to make a trip to the post office to buy a stamp, during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The general election will be held on Nov. 3.

The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 19.

Voters can apply for mail-in or absentee ballots one of three ways:

• Online at votes.pa.com.
• Visiting your local elections office.
• Mailing in a paper form.

The deadline to apply for mail-in or absentee ballot is 5 p.m. on Oct. 27.
