Some areas of metro Phoenix see scant showers Tuesday morning

Some communities may see scattered showers Tuesday morning in the last gasps of the Valley's meager monsoon season, according to weather experts.

Most areas will not see measurable rain as the isolated weather disturbance — not quite a thunderstorm — moves through the Phoenix area from the southwest of the state, said Marvin Percha, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

"There could be some areas that measure a couple hundredths of an inch along with a little thunder or a clap of lightning," Percha said, particularly in the southwest Valley.

By 10 a.m., the weather is expected to dry out, he continued. That's the last bit of precipitation in the forecast for the foreseeable future.

Above normal temperatures are also expected over the next week with the weather warming as we near the weekend, Percha said. We could see highs of up to 106 degrees on Monday.

Tuesday's potential rain is a disappointing, but unsurprising, finale to the monsoon season following the hottest and one of the driest summers in Arizona history.
